We think it is time to close The Painted Bird to the public for the weeks ahead.
What is non-essential can be set aside, but what is essential can be still be DONE!
The essential that we provide is help in celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and other expressions of love. We have brought beautiful handmade gifts to so many, and will keep on doing just that. Now we must do it very carefully!
So… Here’s how to shop virtually at The Painted Bird.
First there is the website. Explore www.painted-bird.com where lots but not all of our artists’ pieces are pictured, priced and can be searched on or ordered online.
Or call us at 231-271-3050 or (text me at 231-920-5828) and tell us what you are looking for. We can shop for you, and send you pictures of your choices. We stay well-stocked year ‘round so there are lots of choices.
Generally from 12 to 5 daily someone will be in the shop.
I will be here quite a bit since my loom is in the shop, and it is my weaving studio.
Judy too will be at the shop, or working from home if I am there, so we are both safe. She is putting more of our goodies on the website during this quiet time.
It is important to keep brightening others’ lives. I hope for all creative people that this may be a fertile and rewarding time.
Take care of yourself and yours!

It is winter and the holidays are past... the perfect time to kick back and enjoy a puzzle!
Kristin Hurlin, Glen Arbor artist has had such great response to her new puzzles that we want to share them! At 22" square and 500 pieces the Leelanau puzzle is a challenging, fun and gorgeous work or art! You are sure to learn a lot from all of the incredible detail Kris has included.

You know why I'm so excited about the new year?
Well, in 2014 The Painted Bird soars to new heights as we launch our NEW WEBSITE! Our poor old website has had NO attention since 1999! (NO kidding). Now you can shop it, wherever you may be, whenever you like! You will see so many great favorites from the store. If there is something special you want to see, let us know and we will email you an image and info on just what you are looking for.
I am excited to reach out via the web to our fans far away. Now you can all see our fine collection of affordable American crafts in our Suttons Bay gallery. The Painted Bird takes flight in 2014 so you don't have to make the drive!
1987 to 2014, - not exactly an anniversary, since round number years are usually celebrated , like 5, 10, 25, and so on.
I like anniversaries that are cool in other ways. Take 27... What a great number! It is 3 to the 3rd power...
3X3X3 Let's celebrate!
Do come and see us soon!
